Well, I don't know if Tide is running a scam or a legitimate lottery. I won't say he's scamming, because I think he probably isn't. But I do think he's being a bit naive by posting this and not anticipating that most people would instantly yell...SCAM!

Overall, it's not something I'd recommend that a new player participate in. There are plenty of other ways to make money. If you are new, then just play the game normally and you'll soon find that you have enough gold to meet all your needs. (Maybe not all your wants, but definitely your needs)

Check the May 2005 update, fourth point from the top.

Theres a reasons they remove /roll from outpost, just insane amount of spam and a great many of the dealer were scammer.

I wont make assumption about tide, but I'm not about to trust him, and I dont sugest any one does either.

Well...

what happens if I pay 1K and choose all numbers from 1-100?

If this is a scam, he'll probably tell me that the winnings have to be split between me and his friend, who somehow manages to get the right number each time, therefore returning me 750g.

Just thinking.

Lol. I personally think its much more fun to go to a random district in Kamadan and find a level 3 without a guild and give him 1k. lol. It is absolutely hilarious. They go nuts!

Funny how both "winners" each start with a real name, then end with some sort of animal.

If you want to help people in pre without being accused of scamming, here are a few easy things to do:

1) give away decent blue and purple items
2) open the gate to the northlands for people who ask...and do it for free
3) join people so they can get rez sigs
4) lead people through the catacombs for boots and the various necro and monk quests
5) give people free "runs" to Ft Ranik and Barradin's Estate
6) remember the old adage about teaching someone to fish rather than giving him a fish...

we use a random number program, this isent a scam, second day doing this, and had 2 winners, we had a 1k pot today.

ask around about us, some people should know by now

we had one person today stalking the friends list, right as i got on "are you playing today?" i know where u get the scam stuff, but atleast i know the truth, along with everyone that has played

about the what if i bet all numbers thing....pretty simple if u bet all numbers u win your money back.....whats the p[oint of that

only one person can have anumber if someone says the same as another players number on the list i simply say sorry this number is taken

this weekend on saturday we are doing an all day pot 2 rounds.....numbers 1-5,000

Tide,

My issue is that you bill this as "helping" other newbies out. How does this help anyone out? Statistically speaking, if you are legit and not a scammer, then over time, a person will get back what they put in. If you put in 10g for one number, you will win back 1000g 1 out of 100 times (if there are always 100 numbers taken). Basically, over time, you will break even. No matter how many people play, this will always average out to breaking even (if you are legit). Statistics will prove this out.

So again, how does this "help" anyone out? To advertise it as helping only fuels the discussion about scamming. If you are legit, then advertise as a simple gambling game - not as something that is going to "help" people.

first of all not all of it is for a profit
we love all the fun in this, the crowd, the omg the jackpot went up.....like i have said to people that deserve a pm from this thread

i would explain in detail like i did to them, but i dont have to explain myself so deeply to get you to not think im a scammer.......its simple we help them with money, they can use it, and have fun at the same time

do you go to the attual guild wars events just to get money, and other things?

I know i dont i go there with friends, i never celebrate without having someone to0 celebrate it with.

again anothewr thing i said to someone is that we double the pot, we stareted this today, so we even put our money in for them....attually we are loosing money.....but to see all of them id farm for a little bit for enough to double a pot......but on saturday.....i dont know hpow im going to double that pot, atleast ill try my hardest to get to it.....im thinking both pots of the day will be in double digit nukmbers if more than 10k, ill farm as much as i can.

Since you have started a thread, why not post the names of every winner, it would go a long way to reducing the /scam accusations and make the posting of the names a "rule" that all players have to approve of so as to not overstep the forum rules about posting other players names

You know..when I first read this post, I think I'm just about the only person that didn't scream ''SCAMSCAMSCAM1!!oneone11!!one1'' straight up.

I viewed this as a genuine idea for fun/helping people. Call me naive or whatever but I think its pretty sad really that when someone posts an idea for fun with helpful motives behind it the first reaction they get is pretty hostile with a bunch of accusations here and there.

No ones proved this is a scam, and my personal feeling is that its unlikely that it is; but whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty >_>

Not EVERYONE is out there to gain from the misfortune of other players, I think too many people forget that, too often.

The reason scammers in real life get away with scamming millions of dollars out of people is because they sell the lie: "You can't prove I'm scamming therefore I'm innocent" whilst bilking those millions of dollars out of naive victims who believe in the false premise of "the good of mankind".

If it quacks like a duck, waddles like a duck, and looks like a duck, it's a duck. Same thing for scams. Same thing for the scam described in the original post.

There is a reason that Anet got rid of casinos, it was precisely to prevent scams like the one in the original post from going on. I'm surprised that fansites tolerate the promotion of scams like this on their forums.

The fact that this thread isn't closed yet is making me wonder if Guru changed their "no promoting gambling policy"

I guess its time for me to unveil my new lottery!

here are the rules.

Players pay 1k,
I think of a number between 1-1000,
Players pick a number,
If they guess my number I pay them 100k

Its not a scam I swear! I'm just trying to help you!

Why are you all accusing me of being scammer?

*sarcasm

I am going to refer you to a guildwars.com update to the Rules of Conduct governing Guild Wars:
http://www.guildwars.com/newsarchive/2005-05.php
Quote:
Due to the proliferation of casinos and their potential for player abuse, we will be blocking the accounts of those who advertise or operate casinos or other gambling schemes within the game, effective immediately. Players should be aware that casinos are a breach of the Rules of Conduct, as is the advertisement or promotion of cheats, hacks, of exploits. None of these things will be accepted within Guild Wars.
Guild Wars Guru supports the Rules of Conduct of Guild Wars.
Closed.
